Update: dad made it through surgery good. They couldn't just patch the lung so they ended up doing a pleurodesis. This attached the lung to the pleural wall to keep it from collapsing again. They tried to extubate him after but after twenty minutes needed to intubate him again. This is just because he needed a little more time to get the anesthesia out of his system.
We got to see him after surgery and he looked good. He could hear us telling him we loved him and he needed to rest. We have talked mom into going to a hotel tonight to very some good sleep since he will be knocked out totally. They will take out the tube in the morning.
Yesterday the PA had him sitting up and standing and taking a few steps. This took a lot out of him. Hopefully it will be easier after surgery.
Headed to Birmingham now. Dad's surgery is scheduled for 11:30. If the doctors can't fix what they need to today, they will not go on and do a more evasive surgery. They will schedule it for another day. Pray everything goes well and this fixes things.
